Dimidiochromis Strigatus looks similar to the eyebiter cichlid, the dimidiochromis compressiceps. It is a predator fish like the eyebiter. Typically fed on smaller mbuna as well as insects.
It reaches atmost a size of 11" in home aquaria.
A pH of 7.8-8 is good with hard water preferable. It can adjust in a varied temerature range, though
The overall behaviour of this fish toward other tankmates varies due to such factors as aquarium size, stocking levels and order of introduction. There may even be some variability among individual specimens. They are in particular most aggressive towards the same species.
Feeding Dimidiochromis Strigatus is not at all difficult, since it takes almost any type of food, pellets,flakes,live and dried worms, prawn, meat, snails, brine shrimp, spirulina. Although meaty foods are particularly helpful to bring out its vibrant colors. Raw shrimps once a week is really needed.
The head profile a more concave appearance above the eye. The mouth is large, typical to all dimidiochromis group. The fin shows bright orange color during spawning time. This fish is very territorial, even without the presence of females and other male strigatus, they usually guard a territory.
